These men that fought in the Pacific got the dirtiest end of the war. The most extreme violence fighting a enemy that would die rather than give up. The book is well written discussing Sid Phillips life during that time--no holds barred and no embellishments. Not a heroic Hollywood movie image of super troops; but real life and death struggle of average kids put into the worst situation possible. The other books related were "A Helmet for my Pillow"; "With The Old Breed on Peleliu and Okinawa". I found this book as interesting addition to make a set. These are the books that "The Pacific" mini series is based on.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Mac-Tgreat book.
