Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff; author of the #1 bestseller Cleopatra; provides an electrifying; fresh view of the Salem witch trials. The panic began early in 1692; over an exceptionally raw Massachusetts winter; when a minister's niece began to writhe and roar. It spread quickly; confounding the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors; husbands accused wives; parents and children one another. It ended less than a year later; but not before nineteen men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death.

Perfect primary referenceBy Kae Seewhat could be better than getting the words right out of someone's mouth? that's exacty what this book is; simply the words of Martha Washington from Martha. It also give you a context in which the letter was written to help give you a better understanding of the letter itself and what is really being said. If I had a complaint it would be that it is hard to read for any length of time; can't really read it as a novel for example. But if you want to know what Martha was like; her life; her loves and her period give it a read. You'll be glad you did.
