The 149th Pennsylvania saw its one day of glory on July 1; 1863; when this young and untried regiment staged a magnificent defense at McPherson's farm. Although this bright promise quickly faded into more typical regimental experience; the story of the regiment's service under the indomitable Joshua Chamberlain remains worth telling. Drawing on the service records of more than 800 soldiers as well as diaries; letters; and other primary souces; this book details the 149th's battles from brigade to company level; from the charges at Gettsyburg to the assault at Petersburg. Focus is on the development; mood and character of a regiment as it undergoes changes in leadership; loss of reliable veterans and the increased individual desire for survival as brutal battles take their toll on mind and body. More than 100 photographs enhance the text.

Great Stories; Badly Designed so that the comics themselves are much smaller than the pages.By IMHO TepThe concept of these books is great.Full disclosure; I've authored books for Chartwell in the past but my review is an honest one.Roy Thomas collects some of the classic WWII era stories for DC Comics big three; in this case Wonder Woman. My review is for that title but it could be put in any of the other titles featuring Batman and Superman. I happen to be a big fan of golden age comics; I probably have most of these stories already but I liked the idea of having reasonably priced hardcover editions. My complaint is the way this is designed-- while the book is on the larger size the comics themselves are printed about 1/3 smaller than they could be and a border is placed all around the outside of each page to fill the dead area. Why wasn't this either printed at a different size or the art itself adjusted to fit the page? It's distracting and disappointing in an otherwise nice collection of stories. No fault to Thomas who is a well regarded historian in the field. But c'mon-- ridiculous.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Woman PowerBy SpikeLoverThis was so great. I like reading about WWII and I like Wonder Woman. I have to say the plots are a bit hokey; but this didn't detract from the joy. One thing that makes this a great comic book is the wonderful supporting characters! Etta Candy and fellow co-eds out-fox the Nazis in severalof the stories.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great collection of comics! Wonder Woman!By c.j. the hutchThis book is great! You get to read the complete comic stories from the World War II era. The artistry wonderful and you get a great background history of Wonder Woman. I highly recommend this book; both for the novice and the lifelong fan! Some of the stories are as relevant today as they were 75 years ago.
