One woman's moving story of her journey with her mother to find their past and the tragedy that haunts itIn 1937; Edith Westerfeld's parents--before being killed by the Nazis--sent her from Germany to live with relatives in America. Fifty-four years later; Edith decided that it was time to; with her grown daughter Fern; revisit the town she had left so many years before. For Edith the trip was a chance to reconnect and reconcile with her past; for Fern it was a chance to learn what lay behind her mother's silent grief. On their journey; Fern and her mother shared many extraordinary encounters with the townspeople and--more importantly--with one another; closing the divide that had long stood between them.

Welcome to Wackiland - Fun Guide to the Sunshine State's "Other" Sights :-)By AlexI have spent about a decade living in Florida; and while I was well-aware of some of the wackiness the Sunshine State has to offer; this "off the beaten path" guidebook has added a whole lot of insight; not to mention many; many sights and places I have added to my "must see" and "must do" bucket lists. If seeing those places is only half as much fun as it was reading about those in this book; those trips will be totally worth it. :-)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not a travel guide.By ArloI am giving this book 3 stars but I do believe that is stretching it a bit/ The title claims that it is a travel guide to Florida; It is far from that. Many of the interesting locations outlined in the book have very vague directions as to where they are located or how to get there. Coordinates for each of them would have been easy enough to add. The reason for the three stars....I have lived in Florida for most all of my 71 years and traveled on just about all of its back roads and the authors certainly did manage to find some interesting places to visit that I have never been to before. . Now; if I could just figure out where they are located.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Who Knew!!By Joan KelleyRecently flew to visit my daughter so I read part of the book while waiting for my connecting flight; both coming and going. I have not finished it yet; but what I have read so far is very cool and interesting! I grew up in Florida and live here now so I will be able to visit some of the sites shown in the book!
