CushingMr. Myers has done a creditable job of synthesizing various primary sources to provide a good chronological account of the service of the 53rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in the Eastern Theater. He quotes a number of journal entries and some letters written by Benjamin Cushing of Company G; Benjamin was one of my great-grandfather's older brothers. The writing style is serviceable and adequate for the presentation of the basic facts--campaigns; marches; battles; etc. This is a useful book for those with a personal interest in and connection to the regiment; it includes company rosters and other records.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. We Might As Well Die HereBy ctopfabWe Might as Well Die Here: The 53d Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteer InfantryVery informative book. I found my ancestor(partial)history in several passages. Another relative also bought this book on my recommendation.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Nice addition to Civil War LibraryBy Elizabeth G.
