It was the most deadly and destructive war in human history. Millions were killed; billions in property was destroyed; ancient cultures were reduced to rubble--World War II was truly man's greatest cataclysm. Thousands of books; movies and documentary films have been devoted to the war. There has never been such a terrible retelling of the story; however; as one will find in Hellstorm. In a chilling "you-are-there" style; the author places the reader at the scene; in the moment. Throughout this book readers will see what Allied airman saw as they rained down death on German cities; or the reader will experience what those below experienced as they sat trembling in their bomb shelters awaiting that very same death from above. The reader will view up close the horrors of the Eastern Front during the last months of fighting and through the mud; blood and madness of combat they may come to understand how the same German soldiers; who only moments before had destroyed an enemy tank; could now risk their own lives to rescue the trapped Soviet crew inside. Readers will witness for themselves the fate of German women as the rampaging Red Army raped and murdered its way across Europe--all females; from "eight to eighty" feared the dreaded words; "Frau Komm." The worst nautical disasters in history which claimed thousands of lives; the greatest mass migration known to man in which millions perished; the fate of those wretched victims in post-war death camps and torture chambers; these and many other dark secrets of World War II now come to light in Hellstorm.

These men are among the greatest in human history in terms of what they achieved ...By John HarrisAlthough I consider myself to be reasonably well read and a student of American history; I learned a lot that I did not know about both Washington and Hamilton and the politics of the the time. These men are among the greatest in human history in terms of what they achieved for mankind .The authors did a decent job of giving the other side about these people who have become controversial in our modern revisionest times where the greatest men in history are now looked down upon because they did not adhere to modern political correctness. while being deeply moral men by the standards of their times. The fact that Washington owned slaves does not change the fact that he was a truly great man.The fact that Hamilton had an affair does not mean that he did not establish the greatest financial system in the history of mankind. By the way; he favored abolition if that helps the modern reader.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An enjoyable and informative history. Worth the cost.By CustomerI enjoyed Prof. Knott's fair and even handed book on the vital political alliance between Hamilton and Wahington which shaped the US. It is a good read and quite interesting. My one criticism is that i don't think Knott was as even handed when discussing Hamilton's and Washington's veiws on slavery in the post script. I would have like a fuller account on esp. Hamilton's veiws which were by at least his political writings (which dealt w/ the issue) organizations he supported seems to suggest he held more enlightened veiws then many of his contemporaries. He barely talks about Washington's veiws on the matter either.Still I really liked this book and would recommand it to anyone interested in the relationship btw. these founding fathers.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A fantastic introduction to a vital partnershipBy dcreaderIf you're not about to read 1;500 pages of Ron Chernow's biographies of these two men; you can still get their stories from this wonderful work by historians Stephen Knott and Tony Williams. Well written; deeply thought and fast paced; the essence of their individual stories as well as their vital collaboration are well explored. My full review can be accessed online at the Journal of the American Revolution.
