When; in 1882; after spending much time in collecting materials; I began to work actively and continuously upon the history of the Second Corps; of the five commanders of that illustrious body of troops four were still living; and ready to give me their valuable suggestions and advice. As I write these closing lines; of the five four are dead. A mong the prominent staff-ofificers of the corps; especially competent to give information of value; the losses have been scarcely less remarkable. Toward the end; therefore; this work has been pushed forward under a painful sense of pressure and emergency. I have almost felt that my task would never be done at all; unless it were done at once. The death of General Warren occurred before this narrative had reached the period during which that brilliant young officer won renown at the head of the Second Corps.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings; such as: Philosophy; Classics; Science; Religion; History; Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings. Loved this bookBy aunt mimiLoved this book....clear cut directions and included places to snack or drink or eat(always a requirement on our walking tours). Friends and I have done several walking tours on our own of this city but this is perfect with many places and information we couldnt find consolidated elsewhere.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Walking Cincinnati and seeing it with new eyesBy loves booksWe have walked four of these neighborhoods and look forward to many more. The interesting thing us that we are very familiar with these areas but have never walked them as extensively as this book requires. We are amazed at what we've seen and what we've learned. When we travel; we always make a point to walk around the cities we visit. Now we are learning and seeing new things about the city we've called home for 45 years. An amazing resource!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
