“Bergeron has produced a book. . . essential to the serious Confederate scholar.â€â€•Journal of American HistoryIn Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units; Arthur W. Bergeron; Jr.; examines the 111 artillery; cavalry; and infantry units that Louisiana furnished to the Confederate armies. No other reference has the complete and accurate record of Louisiana’s contribution to the war. For each unit; Bergeron provides a brief account of its war activities―including battles; losses; and dates of important events. He also lists the units’ field officers; the companies in each regiment or battalion; and the names of company commanders.“This book should serve as a model for studies of other states in the Civil War.â€â€•Military History of the Southwest

Great history continued!By Nat ShapiraHaving read--no; "devoured"--Vol. 1; I am anxious to get into Vol. 2 and continue reading such a magnificently detailed and interesting account of the Union cavalry operations in the Civil War. Besides the historical facts; what adds greatly to the pleasure of reading Steven Starr's writing are the many anecdotes; which add to the overall reading experience. The writing is so good and so detailed; that I find it hard to stop turning the pages.pages.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ThoroughBy C. M. ClarkeStarr's three-volume study of the Union cavalry is the go-to book on the subject. A must-have for the serious Civil War student.
