You may think you know what good writing on the topic of political theology isBy SJM BROWNYou may think you know what good writing on the topic of political theology is; but; that's because you've never read Denton-Borhaug. One of the most beautifully composed and intellectually powerful books ever written on this topic; this book will dramatically impact your understanding of the topic at hand.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An excellent review of this book DOES appear atBy Richard KoenigsbergThis is a thoughtful; groundbreaking book on the dynamics of sacrifice in United States war culture. Reverend Kelly Denton-Borhaug observes that while many scholars have explored the growth of today’s war-culture; less attention has been paid to the rhetoric of sacrifice that undergirds this culture--that is tightly interwoven with Christian themes—forming a sacred canopy encompassing national self-identity.Denton-Borhaug states that “blood sacrifice is at the heart of war culture’s and the warrior’s religiosity.” Yet—the human resort to sacrifice is so ubiquitous as to reside “largely off the radar screen of awareness and consciousness;” making the analysis of sacrifice more difficult; yet all the more important.Professor Denton-Borhaug urges us to become AWARE of the language of sacrifice--in order to awaken from the nightmare of history. And by the way (responding to a recent review): An excellent review of this book DOES appear at: http://www.libraryofsocialscience.com/reviews/Denton-Borhaug.html0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
