Sunni-Shi'i relations have undergone significant transformations in recent decades. In order to understand these developments; the contributors to the present volume demonstrate the complexity of Sunni-Shi'i relations by analyzing political; ideological; and social encounters between the two communities from early Islamic history to the present.

Comprehensive yet easy-to-readBy MaudeGrowing up in a different country and now living in the United States; I wanted to read a comprehensive yet easy-to-read book about U.S. history. This book fitted the bill nicely. One chapter a day before bedtime was the perfect dose.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I've only read about 100 pages but need to say that this book is not for dummies. I was hoping for U.S. history put simply for people who honestly struggle with comprehension and big words (me). . .and that is not what this book is. I don't understand how people can think this book is an easy read. It takes me forever to get through each chapter 1) because I'm spacey and 2) because I have to look up the definitions to a bunch of words that people don't actually use. It's frustrating because when I do look up most of the words; the author could have easily written "he gave a long; agressive speech" instead of saying "he gave a harangue." Maybe not everyone would agree with me; but it seems unnecessary and contradicting.Other than that; I got this book because I could never pay attention to any of my history classes growing up. It's impressive and concerning that I passed with how much I didn't know (which I realized after reading about the revolution in this book). Again; I am frustrated about the big words; but my husband and Google help me understand and I do feel more confident and interested in basic history now. Looking forward to the rest!7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Quick Reference GuideBy Kindle CustomerGreat book for brushing up on your history knowledge or learning something you may have missed back when. Also great for looking up specific facts of history when in a crunch or debate. It's almost like using a cliff notes book ; but with more detail.
