Two Years on the Alabama (Classics of Naval Literature)

ebooks Two Years on the Alabama (Classics of Naval Literature) by Arthur Sinclair in History

Description

Neglected by scholars in favour of his great rival Quetzalcoatl; Tezcatlipoca is among the most enigmatic of the Aztec gods. A large amount of documentary; iconographic and archaeological evidence survives for this powerful avenging figure. In this substantial study; now translated into English; Olivier draws on this rich body of evidence to discuss the symbolism associated with the god; his names and representations; his role in the fall of the kingdom of Tollan; his temple; priests and rituals.

But sticking it out and finishing the cruise as it were; is a rewarding experience. Taken back to a time of realism; with a helping of romanticism; the writer shows us life on board the Confederate raider Alabama. Readers in our time must take time in reading the narrative and build in their minds the pictures the author presents; as the words are very factual and not flowing with adjectives and allegory as maybe is more popular in today's writing.Excellent book; great read.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Pretty Boring.By Fritz NeliusVery difficult to read. Written by member of crew who wrote as writing to other seamen of that time. Pretty boring as far as action is concerned. Very well documented of action of ship and crew Don't read if you desire adventure and action.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great sea novel of historical war cruiseBy James C. PerryVery little has been written about Civil War naval operations especially highlighting any CSA success. Sinclair's writing makes you feel like you were part of Alabama's crew. I loved living it.
