PermutVery interesting book about the "reunion of a US soldier and a Chinese communist soldier who fought against each other in the Korean War. I gave the book to a retired US Army General who fought in the Korean War. He thoroughly enjoyed the book.0 of 2 people found the following review helpful. When Two Extraordinary Men MeetBy G. GriderImagine if the poet/writer Jack Kerouac had gone to war and returned home with a mission: to learn more about the people he'd fought against and; in the process; had come to love them. Imagine the stories he might tell.Imagine too that a man from the other side lived a more-or-less parallel life; only harsher. A teacher in a third world county. And that these two men happened to meet.In "Two Walk the Golden Road;" Wilson Powell; a writer; traveler; and anti-war activist; fought in Korea against the Chinese. In the early eighties he traveled to China and met Zhou Ming-Fu. The two men formed a fast friendship; and decided to write a joint memoir. Powell; who shed the privileged life (his father was a physicist with the Manhattan Project) and took up a writer's vagabond life; shows the reader the American landscape and the hell of the Korean War. Ming-Fu describes the hardships of growing up in poverty-torn China; and after the War how he and his family's endured the Cultural Revolution. This book offers three separate stories: those of the individual authors; and that of their friendship. It is a story of love; perseverance; and faith. Reading this book will change you.1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Very TouchingBy A CustomerI really enjoyed reading "Two Walk the Golden Road". It is a very touching story that shows how people of diverse cultures and personalities can not only learn to relate to one another but can become close friends. It is a not necessarily a "feel-good" story but it is one that will make you ponder the complexities of relationships between people.
