Don't take the accuracy of the text for granted-Rasputin is described in one caption as a "wandering priest;" which he was not. The research on the book seemed to be rather lax. The color photos in the book; taken using a 4-plate technique; were interesting. The quality of the photos in the book was consistently good; so if you're just buying it for the photos; you should be okay. I didn't think it was quite worth the cost.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A valuable historical record worth seeingBy B. PockerJust a fantastic record of lives erased by events. Could not help considering the ultimate fate of each of those photographed. The people looked happy or contented. It is sobering to think how limited their time was before the revolt.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Old Russia RevisitedBy Carl W.This book includes both a wonderful collection of old photographs during the last years of the Romanov dynasty in Russia; and illuminating text; organized by regions of the Russian Empire. For anyone interested in this period of history; a must-have!
