In 1795 the Russian army was as vast as the territory from which it was drawn. The College of War calculated that the regular army amounted to 541;741 men; plus 46;601 enrolled cossacks; and at least a further 100;000 irregular cavalry which could be mobilised in time of war. Inspired by the icons paraded by their priests before battle; the Russian infantry were capable of astonishing feats and total; blind obedience to orders. Philip Haythornwaite examines the organisation and uniforms of the remarkable Russian infantry troops who fought in the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815).

World PhotographyBy Gary GrossmanPhil is the ultimate humanitarian photographer. His quest to improve the lives of the people he comes intocontact with; communicates with; and then makes their portrait; is monumental. There is always thatintimate connection in all his work. But it's not enough; just to photograph people. He makes their lives betterthrough his noble missions.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Beautiful BookBy Pat OI ordered this for my sister's birthday as at age 75; she's hoping to get her artistic genes going again. I thought this might help since so many reviews told of the extremely beautiful photography. Not only does it have some of the most beautiful portraits of Tibetan people; the writings are so uplifting that go along with each picture. May God give back to the Tibetan people all that they have given to this world.
