They Were Heard from: Vmi Alumni in the Civil War

DOC They Were Heard from: Vmi Alumni in the Civil War by David B. Mann; B. David Mann in History

Description

Revealing a little-known part of North American history; this lively guide tells the fascinating tale of the settlement of the St. Lawrence Valley. It also tells of the Montreal and Quebec-based explorers and traders who traveled; mapped; and inhabited a very large part of North America; and “embrothered the peoples” they met; as Jack Kerouac wrote.Connecting everyday life to the events that emerged as historical turning points in the life of a people; this book sheds new light on Quebec’s 450-year history––and on the historical forces that lie behind its two recent efforts to gain independence.

The Institute Will Be Heard From TodayBy Catlett ConwayThis short monograph focuses on VMI's more well-known alumni who served in the American Civil War. It includes information often overlooked in the more comprehensive histories. It is a compelling read. I only wish it had contained more information on the junior officers and enlisted men; not just the field grade and general officers. Highly recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Opens right up with little known factsBy D. JohnsonTells of men who; at the outset of The War of Northern Aggression; were VMI alumni and provides specific numbers of which category they fell into - already deceased; wounded or killed; etc.; with personal stories of some. A must have book for researchers and a truly enjoyable read for casual students of the War. Condition of book was immaculate!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
