The Women of Colonial Latin America (New Approaches to the Americas)

ebooks The Women of Colonial Latin America (New Approaches to the Americas) by Susan Migden Socolow in History

Description

This study of the slave population of Trinidad is based on the Trinidadian slave registrations of 1813; 1815; and 1816; when the Registrar of Slaves recorded information on 17;087 plantation slaves. The principal goal of the study is to draw plausible upper and lower bounds on the levels of plantation slave mortality and fertility in Trinidad in the early nineteenth century.

Fascinating read which takes into account race and class dynamics as well as the ways in which the politics of the lay society were reflected within the walls of the convents and monasteries.
