Today the Victoria Cross remains the supreme British award for bravery. It takes precedence over all other awards and decorations. During its 160-year history; since the first of these medals were given for gallantry during the Crimean War in the 1850's; 1;357 have been won; and no less than 69 of them have gone to Yorkshiremen. Alan Whitworth; in this carefully researched and revealing account; describes in graphic detail the exploits and the lives of this elite group of heroes.

Incisive Critique; Mixed with AbuseBy Jamey Hecht; PhDWorth reading; this book is a refreshingly honest attack on Israeli political attitudes---blended with vitriol about "Jewishness as an ideology." I welcome the author's scorn for nationalism; particularly for the Nazi illusion; now echoed in the Israeli "right of return;" that Judaism is an ethnic category; a folk genus; a race. It is none of these things. But the book seems almost entirely blind to the merits of particular Jews; of Jewish culture; and of Jewish texts.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Better than what I'm used to get from his lectures ...By Carlos jimenezI didn't have much expectations about this book because I don't quite consider Gilad an scholar of the caliber of Finkelstein or Chomsky; the latter a target of his derision. But it surprised be with a very interesting and insightful approach. Better than what I'm used to get from his lectures on youtube. Unfortunately I lost the book before I could get deeper into it. So I can't give a fully accurate impression of this work.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Ramzi E. AbdulrahmanExcellent!
