Ship name not mentionedBy John F DonovanI WAS DIAPPONTED that my ship the USS DOYLE DMS 34 was not mentioned in the book; after all she served 2 deployments to Korea being one of the first ships ordered out of San Diego. WE left on 29 June 1950 and arrived in the war zone in mid July.We swept at Wonsan in fact were there when the Pirate and the Pledge were sunk. We also were riding shotgun for the USS Magpie when it struck a mine and sunk. The Doyle did extensive duty as a "plane guard" with the carriers Sicily; Philippine Sea Bon Homme Richard;and several others. The Doyle also did considerable bombarding firing over 44000 rounds of 5 inch ammo. It seams that a ship had to be hit before it got a mention .2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This shoulod be read by everyone;;;By Randy RobisonThis is NOT a novel... this is history.. extremely well written; My father served on the Valley Forge.. I never realized ... from the little he has said.. what a feat he and his brothers in arms managed. A real eye opener and makes me proud of my Dad and all the veterans of "the forgotten war". Thank you to all who served our country .. then.. prior to Korea.. and now.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. that was fantastic! he really liked the bookBy dorisI got this book for my dad for Christmas. he was in the Korean War. there was some pics of ships in the book and he was on one of them! that was fantastic! he really liked the book.
