The great route of Cyrus is recounted; and much of Xenophon's history is enhanced by his natural accessible and evocative style; informed by his excellent education as a contemporary of Plato and Socrates. We witness in these writings the armies of Greece and Sparta at their height; commanded by a man whose prowess and daring is reflected in the stunning successes and feats which Xenophon and others accomplish on their great expedition. The translation of the original Greek to English in this edition of the Anabasis is by Henry Graham Daykns; a renowned classical scholar whose works remain respected to this day.
