A Brief Introduction To Western PhilosophersBy Todd O'Rourke"The Modern World: Classics of Western Thought" would be a great supplementary textbook; however; as a standalone book used in class; I don't really care for it. I agree that the material within the book is superb; however; I often had to do outside research in order to understand the importance of each text. Similarly; this textbook only gives very brief descriptions of the philosophers that were selected for this book. Most of the time; the description is only a paragraph or two. This is not enough information for the reader to get a sense of why the author is important for today's society.Overall; I like some of the material within the textbook. It introduces many important historical figures that have fallen out of memory; nevertheless; in order to get a better sense of the material; the reader should look elsewhere.I give this textbook three out of five stars.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's a vivid reminder of what deep thoughts and artistic endeavors have preceded our high-tech world of today.
