It's full of fascinating stories and dramas of real immigrant life and a key source of information on the history of Korean immigration to the US.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It is a well planned pictorial book by Professor Roberta Chang and Professor Wayne PattersonBy Chai Ho RheeA well summarized pictorial book by Professor Roberta Chang and Professor Wayne Patterson covering the early Korean settlers in Hawaii; and their off springs in this great country during this past century. The authors collected a lot of historical photos; which will be treasured by many Koreans!!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Interesting bookBy briaryosI bought this book in the summer of 2003; just before I moved to Korea to teach English. I happened to stumble on it during the authors' book signing; so I have a signed copy. (yeah; I know -- oooooooh.)As a Hawaii resident; it made a great coffee table book -- it recounts the history of Hawaii's Korean community and discusses in some detail how Koreans in Hawaii helped shape the development of South Korea. It also highlights the demographic divisions within the Korean community; based on generation; time-in-country; and home province.Overall; it's an interesting book. 4 stars.
