The Korean War 1950–53 (Men-at-Arms)

DOC The Korean War 1950–53 (Men-at-Arms) by Nigel Thomas; Peter Abbott in History

Description

This is the story of a child; uprooted from a loving and protected home; who was sent to strangers in a strange country to fend for herself. In this memoir; Anne L. Fox has written about her childhood in Nazi Germany and her subsequent departure to England with the Kindertransport. As a 12-year-old girl; she came to live with a Jewish family in London until the outbreak of World War II when she was evacuated to the countryside. Although she missed her parents terribly; her stay in the village of Swineshead in Bedfordshire was a happy one. Her village education came to an end when she turned 14; however; and she was sent to the Bunce Court Boarding School in Shropshire. After graduating; she worked in a public library in Cardiff where she met her husband; a soldier in the US Army. She came to America as a GI bride and has made her home in Philadelphia.

Hot and Cold War...By HMS WarspiteThe Korean war of 1950-1953 matched two multi-national armed forces on the rugged confines of the Korean Peninsula; with its extremes of hot and cold weather. Although national contingents on the United Nations side tended to adopt U.S. uniforms in whole or part over time; they retained many distinctive unit items. On the Communist side; the Chinese "volunteers" dominated in uniforms by sheer numbers."The Korean War 1950-53" is an Osprey Men-at Arms Book; authored by Nigel Thomas and Peter Abbott; with color plates by the legendary illustrator Mike Chappell. The book combines a brief narrative of the Korean War with a short discussion of the participation by the various national contingents; wrapped around some excellent photographs and illustrations of the uniforms they wore. The color plates are particularly good. The narrative on the war itself is decent but a little dated. Recommended as a concise introduction to the topic.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Brad LundGreat pictures0 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
