It is also a "people's history" filled with the stories of people in Havana's past such as "El Caballero de Paris" who was allowed to live in the dream that he was a gentleman from Paris and the union of sex workers who published their own satirical journal - called "The Onion" - which poked fun at the hypocrisy of their patrons.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. HavanaBy Juan M. SubiranaI really enjoyed the book. My parents were Cubans yet I have never had the opportunity to visit the island. I heard many; many stories growing up about Cuba and particularly Havana and I was able to relate to much in the book. I laughed a many things I read in the book because it reminded me of stories I had heard and there were many references that I hadn't heard in years. I am also a history teacher and there were some surprises I learned from the book that I was not familiar with.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
