At a time when the institution of the presidency seems in a state of almost permanant crisis; it is particularly important to understand what sort of an institution the framers of the Constitution thought they were creating. Founding the American Presidency offers a firsthand view of the minds of the founders by bringing together extensive selections from the constitutional convention in Philadelphia as well as representative selections from the subsequent debates over ratification. Pointed discussion questions provoke students to consider new perspectives on the presidency. Ideal for all courses on the presidency; the book is also important for all citizens who want to understand not only the past but the future of the American presidency.

A "Lost" Regiment RevivedBy Theseus"...traces the progress of the 154th New York Infantry Volunteers from the regiment's organization in 1862 in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties to the mustering out in 1865.""...the 154th New York participated in some of the great campaigns and battles of the war. At Chancellorsville; the regiment's stand against Stonewall Jackson's famous attack made its first battle a disastrous and bloody one. At Gettysburg; a similar forlorn fight decimated the regiment further. But the remaining soldiers continued to fight and suffer in the subsequent campaigns for Chattanooga and Atlanta and participated in General Sherman's destructive march through Georgia and the Carolinas."By the 1960's; the stories of the 154th were forgotten. The soldiers of this unit live again "through the several diaries and accounts and the hundreds of letters located by the authors during years of research."With brief biographical sketches. Hardback with dustjacket; 211 pp; 124 bw illustrations; 13 maps; Bibliography; Index.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.
