The 6th-century rock-cut cave temple on Elephanta island; in the middle of Mumbai harbour; is the home of Shiva; the greatest of all Hindu gods. Elephanta leads the reader through this magnificent cave temple; examining its overall architectural scheme and interpreting the myths of Shiva that are depicted so forcefully in the extraordinary stone sculptures. The outstanding photographs capture the beauty and magic of the cave. This book also contains fascinating accounts of European travellers; documenting their discovery of Elephanta from the 17th century onwards; and includes information on the ongoing efforts to preserve this monument that was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

These heroes are talked again and again in a variety of forums such as in the origins of festivals; traditions; and even classical songs/renditions.The two main Indian epics are the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha. This book mainly tells the stories of heroes who were not the main characters but were at the fringes of these epics. These men and women nevertheless played a role in some form in the outcome of these great battles. This book talks about these characters. I loved the simplicity of the narratives told in a manner that a grandfather would tell them to his grandchildren. Such books carry forward the great Indian tradition and mythology and slow down the degradation and ignorance about these epics among the youth and children of India today. Ultimately books like these can provide the children with moral and spiritual lessons and help them become good individuals.
