This volume examines the interactions between white missionaries and slaves in the 1840s and 1850s; and the ways in which blacks used the missions to nurture the formation of the organized black church. The author uses church records; slave narratives; and autobiographies in her research.

It is a superb anthology of materials relating to Hermeticism and the Golden Dawn; including scholarly research; inspired speculation; and original rituals. It is a treaure trove for the student and particularly the practitioner of the Hermetic Arts. Five Stars; absolutely.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
