Very well illustrated and excellent photographs of the terrain from locations of both defender and attacker. Also provides the reader with a thorough understanding of all arms of service; including infantry; cavalry; artillery; logistics; medical; their structure; formations; how they operated; tactics used etc. as well as detailed biographies of many of the key people. The three days of the battle are examined in detail as well as key events leading up to it.A book I will come back to again and again.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Gettysburg and Much MoreBy Robert D WellsThe Gettysburg Companion exceeded my expectations. The details that the author researched when writing the book sheds light and perspective as to how and why many of the decisions were made at Gettysburg. It certainly answered many of the questions and provided details to situations that I had concerns with. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent reading The Gettysburg Companion and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in that time and point in American History.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
