When this book was announced 2 years ago I immediately put it on my wish list. It has been a long wait but worth it. I was expecting an update of " Regimental Strengths At Gettysburg" by Busey and Martin. The book does give a complete Order Of Battle for Gettysburg with unit strengths and losses. It also does the same for all of the engagement of the campaign from the Battle of Brandy Station VA on June 9th 1863 through the engagement at Falling Waters MD on July 14. The book gives a brief description of each engagement with units engaged; their strengths and losses; if known. Most of the engagements have detailed maps with the main battle at Gettysburg having 17 maps - not counting the Cavalry vs Cavalry battles in the area. When casualties are mentioned in most sources; it is usually broken down as killed; wounded and missing; with missing being mostly prisoners; and wounded including men who would eventually die of wounds. This book sometimes goes into more detail giving killed; mortally wounded; wounded; wounded and captured; captured and missing although I am confused when a unit has captured AND missing in the same engagement. I have been to the Gettysburg area many times and know where most of the locations of the various engagements are but several of the place names are unknown to me. ( Where the heck is Seneca Mills MD ?) It is inconvenient to search maps elsewhere in an attempt to locate these places. The book needs one more map showing the places mentioned in the book. In spite of this; this is an excellent book and a must buy for anyone interested in the Gettysburg Campaign.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The Best Set Of Numbers PossibleBy Tony Marquise Jr.This book is as good a list of the number of troops who fought in the Gettysburg Campaign andthe number of troops killed; wounded;and captured on both sides durring this series of battles. For both sides; if you fought in this campaign; the odds of going home wear slim. I dicovered many engagements(some quite big battles)that I never heard of. And the introduction states that many engagements that occured in this theater are not covered because records of them were never made. I do have a problem with this book-what does the listing of missing mean? The number under this catergory are in the thousands and there is a sererate listing for captured. It seems to me that most of those on this list were killed and buried as Unknown after the battle.
