This incredible journey is truly a remarkable account of the guts and patriotism of a genuine World War II hero.--H. Norman Schwarzkopf; General; U.S. Army; Retired"The tale he's left us has the feel of that moment when America was desperate for heroes; and reading it now is as much a trip back in time as it is a journey across the dark Sulu Sea."--New York Times Book Review"His story is utterly amazing; and so too is this book. His latest book "The Florida Land Boom of the 1920's" is a gem. Most fascinating is his in depth narrative of the real estate mogul's rags to riches and riches to rags journey into a little known venture. For some; the title might sound bland; like a light bulb to ignore or quickly extinguish. This masterpiece is far from that and beams with an intensity that captivates the reader's interest until the very last period stops its read. Those not familiar with the men who took a chance on developing a waste land of hot; humid; stormy; insect infested; and alligator ridden swamp land; Mr. Turner's new book is more than an eye opener jaw dropping manuscript. Why such interest in a god forsaken jungle? What were these men thinking? What did these men have in mind? Mr. Turner explains it all.Professor Turner introduces these men and expounds in vivid analogies their agendas and goals in tackling and developing Florida communities as we know them today.Miami; Palm Beach; Boca Raton; Ft. Lauderdale; Naples; and much of the Florida peninsula were uninhabitable for humans. Mr. Turner illustrates in detail the rise of these bustling metropolises from blue prints to hard labor. It is filled with appropriate and stellar diagrams; pictures; and charts hidden from the public for decades only to be discovered through the superior research done by the author.Professor Turner's step by step explanation of "The Florida Land Boom of the 1920's" is mesmerizing. It is a history; story and journey not to be missed. Those interested in Florida history will appreciate this fine book without doubt. Again; it is a gem!C.W.Hammond;Jr.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy CustomerFascinating3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A great read for both historians and fans of Florida!By Lorie DarcheI started reading this book last evening and find that I cannot put it down. As a thirty-year resident of Florida I am thrilled to learn so much about the early 20th century history of this great state; having lived through the boom and bust of the real estate market in the first decade of this century I am further reminded that this period was really more a matter of history repeating itself; once again. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in learning more about Florida's early development and of the key individuals who had a hand in its growth. The multitude of pictures within the book are a tremendous complement to the book; further helping the reader to go back in time and understand this period of transformation!Kudos; Mr. Turner; for giving us another great book!
