It contains the writings of the men who followed after the Apostles and passed on the True Faith. Jesus said; "You are Peter and upon this Rock I will build My Church" and also "Whoever hears you; hears Me." So these are the men who heard. The book is set up in such a way that if you have a particular question about for example; the Pope; Mary; Purgatory; you can go to that section and read what the Fathers have to say about it.
