The Asian Texans (Texans All)

ebooks The Asian Texans (Texans All) by Marilyn Dell Brady in History

Description

Why would Georgia attack South Ossetia in August 2008; with Russian forces conducting exercises nearby? This remains a puzzle to analysts on a not inconsiderable list of foreign policy puzzles. Hans Mouritzen and Anders Wivel use the example of the Russo-Georgian war to illustrate and evaluate their original model for explaining foreign policy behavior. The authors apply the model to the actions of fourty countries in relation to the 2008 war. Uniquely linking system; interstate; and intrastate levels of explanation; and benefiting from the WikiLeaks revelations; they offer an important new tool for foreign policy analysis.

MurrayThe straight-ahead prose; ample use of sidebars about individual/family histories; plentiful illustrations; and fairly simple syntax suggests that the book and series are primarily aimed at high school students in Texas; ambivalent about multiculturalism and immigration as the state's government is. I think that both the photos and the history related are of interest beyond the borders of Texas. The official discrimination -- he denial of the possibility of citizenship for nonwhite immigrants until a few years into the war with Nazi racism; the Chinese Exclusion Acts of 1882 and 1902; the Oriental Exclusion Act of 1924; and some Texas bills and laws -- are sufficiently noxious as not to require comment. Learning of or being reminded of them is wince-inducing. Persistence and resiliency were required from refugees from Southeast Asian in the late-1970s and beyond; as from earlier immigrants who could "go home again;" though many who came on a money-making "sojourn" stayed on; as having many who came to Texas (or other US states) for education since the 1965 reform of immigration law. It's all here along with some superficial accounts of religion and cuisine as maintained in Texas by immigrants from Asia and their descendants.1 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
