A Guide to the Battles of the American Revolution is the first comprehensive account of every engagement of the Revolution; a war that began with a brief skirmish at Lexington Green on April 19; 1775; and concluded on the battlefield at the Siege of Yorktown in October 1781.In between were six long years of bitter fighting on land and at sea. The wide variety of combats blanketed the North American continent from Canada to the Southern colonies; from the winding coastal lowlands to the Appalachian Mountains; and from the North Atlantic to the Caribbean.Unlike existing accounts; A Guide to the Battles of the American Revolution by authors Theodore P. Savas and J. David Dameron presents each engagement in a unique way. Each battle entry offers a wide and rich—but consistent—template of information to make it easy for readers to find exactly what they are seeking.Every entry begins with introductory details including the date of the battle; its location; commanders; opposing forces; terrain; weather; and time of day. The detailed body of each entry offers both a Colonial and British perspective of the unfolding military situation; a detailed and unbiased account of what actually transpired; a discussion of numbers and losses; an assessment of the consequences of the battle; and suggestions for further reading. Many of the entries are supported and enriched by original maps and photos. Fresh; scholarly; informative; and entertaining; A Guide to the Battles of the American Revolution will be welcomed by historians and general enthusiasts everywhere.About the Authors: Theodore P. Cook; Jr.This is a wonderfuly well-researched and comprehensive book on Major Robert Rogers; the intrepid leader of the colonial Rogers' Rangers during the French and Indian War. It not only presents Roger's own journals in their entirety; it has a wealth of other material on the famous Ranger leader; such a number of pen-and-ink sketches depicting moments in Roger's Rangers campaigns; Ranger uniforms; the North American forest Indians they fought with and against; and their French foes. The book is a very large format softcover; somewhat unwieldy to handle in the reading; but the quality of material more than makes up for this slight drawback. My copy had some slight edge damage -- a thumb-sized dent at one place across the vertical end pages and a small stain on the bottom end pages.I'd most definitely recommend this book to devotees of Robert Rogers and Rogers' Rangers.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The book is well illustrated and the illustrator goes to great length to represent the pictorial content with historical accuracBy Dr. David R. MurrayThe book provided a historical background in to many of the activities of Rogers' Rangers in and around the Lake George and the Lake Champlain region during the French and Indian war. The book was well researched and reflected many perspectives from the journals of several English; French; Canadian and woodsman from New York and the New England Colonies. The book is well illustrated and the illustrator goes to great length to represent the pictorial content with historical accuracy. When I arrived in Viet Nam in 1967; I was given a copy of Rogers' Rangers Rules. I was greatly surprised to see that bush warfare hadn't changed much and the tactics that Robert Rogers had developed were still used.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Annotated and Illistrated Journals of Robert Rogers excellentBy RAROWEI am in the process of annotating and illustrating a book about an ancestor who was killed during the Revolutionary War. Since he was killed by troops under the command of Major Thomas Posey of Morgan's Rangers there are approximately 20 pages of affidavits in George Washington's Papers in the Library of Congress about this incident. The Robert Rogers Journals are helpful to me in organizing my book.
