The Tennessee 24th Infantry regiment was organized in July 1861 and completed at Camp Trousdale; Sumner County; Tennessee August 23; 1861. At the Battle of Shiloh on April 6th 7th 1862; the 24th fought bravely losing 12 killed and 24 wounded of the 406 men they took into the two days of fighting. The regiment fought throughout the war under Gen. Patrick Cleburne until his death at Franklin. Only a handful of the men remained to surrender in North Carolina.
