Distinguished for its fierce tenacity and fighting ability; the brigade suffered some of the war's highest casualties. However his name does not appear in the book as he mustered out in 1864 not 1866. This regiment who fought for the Union (and many were from Illinois) has been somewhat overlooked by the National Archives.Dr. Belcher got some of his information from someone who I actually know and who a high school friend of mine knows and this source did not always give accurate information. But Dr. Belcher did the best he could with the sources he had and I am grateful to him for writing this book. I also bought his other book "This Terrible Struggle for Life" which was written by Thomas S. Hawley; M.D. and edited by Dennis Belcher Ph.D.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It is a great book for meBy SkyBossIt is a great book for me. Two of my Great Grandfathers (Father and Son) fought together in Co. C; so the book has great significance for me. The father enlisted in 1861 and the son in 1864. The 11th was made up of almost entirely from men from Illinois. It is well written and excellent insights from many letters written home by officers and men.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
