The first in a new series of studies of great military men as battlefield commanders and controllers of fighting forces. Known as a fine motivator of men and a master of utilizing his resources; Lee has been assessed by many historians. This is not another biography but more a study of how he maximised the potential of his Northern Virginia army; structuring it to meet the needs of his extensive campaign in the eastern theatre of the American Civil War; revising it as the battle situation required it and producing from it a performance which belied its size; firepower and opposition.

Jok Madut Jok gives a detailed account of the politics and passions behind the conflict that has raged in Sudan for decades. I highly recommend this book as an introductory work that will tell you what has been happening there and what is happening now. I found the first several chapters to be entirely readable - and while the latter chapters get a bit "academic" in tone; the book still delivers a powerful array of information in an account that will leave you feeling - well - challenged; learned; and concerned for the people of Sudan.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
