With the current racial divide widening in America with every racial incident our nation is in need of healing and true reconciliation. In a section from Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a Dream" speech we can find a vital key necessary to make this a reality – Sitting down at the Table of Brotherhood. In this section of the speech we can see the canvas of the racial backdrop of the two distinct histories in America of those of African descent and those of European descent – the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners. This canvas shows us the lens through which each people groups’ vision of life was formed and focused; and why we see the way we see and think the way we think on each side of the racial divide. This vital key helps in understanding one another to be able to work through differences across each side of the divide. The section of King’s epic speech that reveals the two separate lenses begins by saying: "I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia; the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the TABLE OF BROTHERHOOD – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In this book; "The table of Brotherhood†we will investigate the two points of view on each side of the racial divide and encourage and inform all races and people groups on how to reach for the dream of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to sit down at the table of brotherhood to discuss our differences; the racial disparities and injustices and how to achieve racial reconciliation; as well as how we can work together to let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
