Stalin's Genocides (Human Rights and Crimes against Humanity)

audiobook Stalin's Genocides (Human Rights and Crimes against Humanity) by Norman M. Naimark in History

Description

For the Western world; the period from 1760 to 1800 was the great revolutionary era in which the outlines of the modern democratic state came into being. Here for the first time in one volume is R. R. Palmer's magisterial account of this incendiary age. Palmer argues that the American; French; and Polish revolutions―and the movements for political change in Britain; Ireland; Holland; and elsewhere―were manifestations of similar political ideas; needs; and conflicts. Palmer traces the clash between an older form of society; marked by legalized social rank and hereditary or self-perpetuating elites; and a new form of society that placed a greater value on social mobility and legal equality.Featuring a new foreword by David Armitage; this Princeton Classics edition of The Age of the Democratic Revolution introduces a new generation of readers to this enduring work of political history.

Stalin is like a nice man who helps children then you find out he is a mass murderier. I wonder what he thinks now about all of his victims as many are either in hot pursuit or screaming at him as he runs down the unlimited hallways of hell. Every deed; good or bad; is accountable and all things will be confessed before all of mankind on the day of judgement. There has been no greater evil than Joseph Stalin nor will there ever be. Each chapter deals with the murder of millions of people who were of the Russian Christian faith or who were innocent citizens of that country. If you disagreed with any of Stalin's programs; philosophy; plans; or programs by even a faint whisper of disagreement; you would find yourself in a gulag or lined up and shot in the neck by the Cheka or other gangster thugs. The author takes us through the rise of Stalin; his starvation plans; his formation and imitation of the Gulag system; elimination of all his enemies; real or imagined; his consolidation of power; and absolute rule with no room for debate. If ever there was the devil's son; Stalin fits the bill.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A wonderfully useful bookBy Daniel ChirotThere is no better or clearer introduction to the monstrosity of Stalin's crimes. Using his own vast research over many years and the work of other major scholars; Norman Naimark has explained what happened in terms that will satisfy both general readers and academics looking for a work on this topic to assign to their classes.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Like a long term paperBy THOMAS W. ANDERSONIf you are looking for an interesting read about Russian history and the excesses of Stalin's despotic rule; you might want to find a book that has more meat on the bone. This book reads like a fleshed-out term paper and little else. Some scope and breadth would have been greatly appreciated.
