Most of the towns are familiar to me (I'm from Georgia live near Atlanta); also there are humorous incidents (soldiers getting dressed while marching--hard to do without shooting yourself!) and also touching incidents (an Ohio cavalry trooper whose injured dying horse managed to stagger along with the troops in search of its master until they camped for the night; when it finally expired). You really get a good picture of an army on the march; also of Georgians who are confronted with said army. Great piece of Civil War history.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Stories from those who fought this campaignBy LesSouthern Storm is an outstanding example that inside information about this campaign does add to the narrative. The detailed information from soldier diaries and citizens along the way are stunning; given most Sherman march stories cover only the well known generals and the tactics. While this book does reflect tactics it integrates the words and feelings of front line soldiers; citizens; and slaves alike. Well done; I have enjoyed this book and will add it to my Civil War library as one the best I have read. I learned a great deal from Trudeau's research.Les WilliamsCol.
