Osprey's examination of one of the most crucial battles of the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815). Austerlitz was the battle that established Napoleon's reputation: a classic example of the general's masterly use of deception to lure his enemy into a carefully devised trap. Beginning with the bold and crushing advance of the French Army from the Rhine to the Danube; David Chandler describes the envelopment of Mack's army at Ulm; the manoeuvres to Austerlitz and the counter-attack that resulted in the decisive defeat for the Austro-Russian Army. Excellent overview illustrations of the battlefield at Austerlitz supplement the text by clearly showing the movements of the opposing armies.

I'm a subscriber from the very late 70s and have been ever since. This is one great coffee table book that people will pick up. Trust me. Even if they are Northerners like myself. LOL. Amazing stories of SL history; past articles and vintage photos from the past make this a super gift for someone who subscribes to SL. Except for an awful period when M.Lindsay Bierman took over the magazine as Editor in Chief in 2010 till 2014 when the magazine sunk to new lows and thankfully they replaced him with Sid Evans; the magazine remains great today. A definite gift to someone they will totally enjoy.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Big; Beautiful Book!By Kandy KaneBig; beautiful book! I gave this book to my sister for her 70th birthday today and she absolutely loved it! She is a long time subscriber to Southern Living and totally appreciated it. She particularly enjoys the short stories by Rick Bragg at the end of each issue of Southern Living and he is featured in this 50 year celebration book.
