The prolonged and bloody fighting for control of the Japanese occupied Pacific islands in World War II is a key point in 20th-century warfare. No two islands were alike in the systems and nature of their defensive emplacements; and local improvization and command preferences affected both materials used and defensive models. This title details the establishment; construction and effectiveness of Japanese temporary and semi-permanent crew-served weapons positions and individual and small-unit fighting positions. Integrated obstacles and minefields; camouflage and the changing defensive principles are also covered.

History is preserved in the exceptional book.By ChelleThis is one of the the best books on Slovenia WWII that I've found so far. My husband's grandfather was one of the lucky men who survived Dachau and came to the United States. The family did not speak much of their harrowing times; and this well written book with first person accounts gave this sheltered American a better understanding of the horrors of wartime. Slovenia is a beautiful country by all accounts; and the Slovenes a people of character and history. While this book is difficult to read due to the accounts of suffering; it is exceptionally well written and readable. An important book for anyone who wants to understand wartime.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent reading for the Historical PersonBy judith schenkHad no idea this had occurred. My mother went to Slovenia on a regular basis until she was 85. A family member did tell her a cousin was shot by her best friends cousin; My mother was not going to ever talk to her again despite the fact they were friends for 50 years. I told her why did they bring that up now when you been there 10 times. Of course I did not realize that there was an issue. I was doing relative look up and wanted to know about grandparents I never met. My Dad was 14 when he came to the USA; with 4 brothers; and refused to talk about it and why they left. After I read the book; I understood why. There are relatives I can never find out about because of what occurred. I am deeply saddened what happened to all of the people and do not understand why the hell England did what they did. It is an eye opening book as to what can happen without anyone being aware.
