Sometimes the things you do get skewed or exaggerated over time making you out to be something; or someone; you’re not. Don’t let it get to you though because over time your true story will come out.As a child you hear stories about some of the women in this book. You grew up knowing about Cleopatra and the infamous asp; Anne Boleyn seducing the King and Joan of Arc’s heroics. What Scandalous Women tells you is that what you knew to be true may actually be a lie. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear the true stories. It is also interesting to also learn about women you have never heard of. Women who did amazing things in their lives but were not given their proper place in history. After you get done reading about female pirates and famous artists you want to continue to research and learn more about them. Mahon gives you the juicy details and leaves you wanting more.If you are interested in history; feminism or learning about some pretty amazing women then this book is a great jumping off point. There is an index in the back with more books and films about each woman if you are interested in learning more.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Women in historyBy Stori DivaDid you ever want to know just a tiny bit more about those less than pristine women throughout history that the text books never told you?How much didn't you know about Marie Antoinette? Aren't you curious to know if Cleopatra really bathed in the milk? How about Emilie du Châtelet a brilliant physicist; author and "ahem" lover of Voltaire; one of the influential minds in 1700's France. Why was Ida B. Wells-Barnett (1862-1928) fight to end discrimination (even before Rosa Parks) lost in the chronicles of history?Ms Mahon; gives us a peek into the lives of some of the most celebrated and notorious women in history. This author gives you the "juicy" stuff you want to know while keeping her historical data intact. This is an easy and delightful read and I whole heartedly recommend it for all women and history buffs alike.
