I was definitely not disappointed. The multi-authored text is well-written and respectably written. The complexities of Russian culture are made interesting and easy to understand by the authors. Dr. Bova compiles some truly excellent writing that even a high schooler can understand. It's not highly-technical writing. It gets to the point and analyzes art; literature; politics; religion; and history without getting into high scholarly language. "Keep it simple" works with this book.I highly recommend as a supplement. I would even recommend as a textbook for a 100-level cultures class. It helped me greatly for at least four Russian studies classes. One downfall is that the Index is not really thorough. I'm sure that those with PhDs will probably find problems in the book - I do not have a PhD in Russian studies (at least; not yet).4 1/2 of 5. I recommend it.
