ALCALAI bought this book hoping to find data for the reconstruction of the USSR after the tremendous destruction and atrocities committed by the Germans; and even provides some interesting demographic data; most of the book refers to the change of society; his spirit; of sociological processes that Russian society was suffering. Interesting aspects of course; but for hose who seek more "materialistic" information need to buy other books. In any case a very interesting book and is from the Russian point of view; opening another window into the Russian soul for foreigners. No people have suffered so much in the twentieth century as the Russians.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A little dry but a topic too little discussedBy John DesmondThis work provided a worthwhile view of the attitudes of the Russian people who had just vanquished Hitler at tremendous cost and the hopes that they had entertained about their society as due reward for their sacrifices. Those hopes would be dashed. Where this book falls a bit short is in its very clinical; political scientific approach rather than attempting to inject a little more of the human drama.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
