The promise of America is that; with ambition and hard work; anyone can rise to the top. But now the promise has been broken; and we’ve become an aristocracy where rich parents raise rich kids and poor parents raise poor kids.We’ve been told that the changes are structural; that there’s nothing we can do about this. In our area the beaches tend to be pebbly; and every time we take a beach walk or hike we say things like; "Look at this one! What do you think that is?" We know just enough to identify a few rocks...but certainly not enough.My husband is a bit of a geology buff; but mostly on more of a macro level. We would both like to know more about identifying the rocks and minerals we come across.So; this little book has come in handy. It's sized so we can tuck it in a pocket for one of our hikes.It is very well organized too so we can look up things we come across. The photos are very clear and the accompanying text is well written; too. The photos; especially; have really helped us figure out what we're seeing.There are way too many different types of rocks on our beaches - and to a lesser extent; our hikes through the woods - to identify them all. Want to know something about rocks; minerals and gems in these states? This book answers all. The pictures are incredible for a thick pocket sized book. It is a plethora of information.
