Remembrance of Patria: Dutch Arts and Culture in Colonial America (Albany Institute of History and Art)

DOC Remembrance of Patria: Dutch Arts and Culture in Colonial America (Albany Institute of History and Art) by Roderic H Blackburn in History

Description

Congregation Emanu-El's portrait has been painted here in a broad canvas of a momentous century and a half of world Jewish History. Waves of immigration; the changing posture of the Reform movement; the response to the Holocaust; the acrimonious debate over the birth of Israel; and; in recent decades; the reaction to alternative expression of Judaism are among the many important themes that shape this richly textured narrative.

Review
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. lovely bookBy Christopher LoganThe color photos - and there are many - are reproduced so well that I felt I was looking at the original. In the few areas I know something about; the text covered my subjects admirably. Old New Amsterdam / New York sings its songs for us in the 21st century. It is a nice book for the artist / handicrafter but also very nice for the art lover and also for historians. I feel I know New York culture much better for paging though this lovely book.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful BookBy WWTBLots of good information within this book. Really like the usage of actual images (painting; etc.) to illustrate the text.
