Raoul Wallenberg: The Heroic Life and Mysterious Disappearance of the Man Who Saved Thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust

audiobook Raoul Wallenberg: The Heroic Life and Mysterious Disappearance of the Man Who Saved Thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust by Ingrid Carlberg in History

Description

1917: the year a series of rebellions toppled three centuries of autocratic rule and placed a group of political radicals in charge of a world power. Here; suddenly; was the first modern socialist state; “a kingdom more bright that any heaven had to offer”. But the dream was short-lived; bringing in its wake seventy years of conflict and instability that nearly ended in nuclear war.How could such a revolution take place and what caused it to go so very wrong? Presenting a uniquely long view of events; Abraham Ascher takes readers from the seeds of revolution in the 1880s right through to Stalin’s state terror and the power of the communist legacy in Russia today. Original and shrewd; Ascher’s analysis offers an unparalled introduction to this watershed period in world history

You can learn a lot about Swedish; Hungarian and Russian/Soviet history and a remarkably courageous man who saved so many lives.By Natalja DobosHighly recommend this book. True documentary that is based on primary sources like letters; interviews and Swedish and many other diplomatic and state documents. The first third deals with family history; childhood; education and early career providing an excellent view about life in Sweden before; later; during and after the Second World War. The second part gives an excellent; and pretty objective account about Hungary during the war. The third part is at the end of the war and after the war account about the Soviet regime and Swedish Soviet diplomacy. Reading the biography of Raul Wallenberg one can learn a great deal of courage; integrity and many other great values.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. with people like Wallenburg ready to "stick his neck out" and save ...By Margaret ShieldI haven't been able to "sink my teeth" into it yet..but I am looking forward to enjoying every page.
