The battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 marked the turning point of the American Civil War. The apex of the Confederacy's final major invasion of the North; the devastating defeat also marked the end of the South's offensive strategy against the North. From this battle until the end of the war; the Confederate armies largely remained defensive. The Artillery of Gettysburg"" is a thoughtful look at the role of the artillery during the July 1?3; 1863 conflict. Bradley M. Gottfried provides insight into how the two armies employed their artillery; how the different kinds of weapons functioned in battle; and the strategies for using each of them. He shows how artillery affected the ebb and flow of battle for both armies and thus provides a unique way of understanding the strategies of the Federal and Union commanders.

Great presenttion of General ClevelandBy Mike DeBruhlI had the privilege to serve under General Cleveland as Assistant Exec Officer in Personnel Programs at the Pentagon. This book revealed a great deal that he never mentioned and is a great representation of him. From the book; I learned that we had much more in common than I had imagined....both were in the 81st TFW ( years apart ) both were at Bentwaters / Woodbridge; I was base Personnel Officer there while he was at Third Air Force HQ; etc.; etc.;...I knew Mrs. Cleveland and she was a wonderful Air Force wife and great Lady This book brought back great memories and gave me an even greater appreciation of the contributions made by this man.Well done; factual; and keep you engaged....particularly if you have had Military experience.Mike DeBruhl; Aiken; SC2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Thanks For Your ServiceBy Rob ReiderEnjoyed the biography. The General is a man of honor; principle; and a great leader. I would have enjoyed reading more about his combat missions. Earning his 5th kill more than 50 years after the war ended is an incredible achievement.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. My uncle; the Lt. General....By C. RiedelCharles G.
