Officers and Soldiers of the French Cuirassiers 1801-1815

audiobook Officers and Soldiers of the French Cuirassiers 1801-1815 by André Jouineau in History

Description

The Chinese parallel to the Pali-Kutadantasutta marks one of the major turning points in Old Indian history of ideas: the transition from magic to ethics. In this sermon; the Buddha rejects the Vedic animal sacrifice and re-interprets it according to Buddhist ethics. He preaches sacrifices in a new sense of the word: the sacrifice of giving alms to Buddhist monks; or; even better; of building monasteries; of converting to Buddhism as a Buddhist layman; of obeying the five Buddhist rules for laymen; or - finally and most meritorious - becoming a Buddhist monk. In "Beginnings of Buddhist Ethics;" Konrad Meisig translates the Buddhist Chinese text for the first time and contrasts it in synopsis with the Pali. The text is given in the original characters along with the Pinyin transcription. The text-critical introduction deals with the "variae lectiones" both of the Chinese and the Pali; the final analysis focuses on the literary stratification and criticism of forms; thus reconstructing the archetypical nucleus of the Kutadantasutta.

KongThis is the 14th volume of the Officers and Soldiers series from the French publisher Histoire Collections. This time it is on the French Cuirassiers from 1800 to 1815 and is put together by Andre Jouineau and Olivier Lapray. The book is 84 pages in total; but note that the pagination starts from the book cover. So; the introduction (the book calls Origins) is on page 5. The text is translated from the French original and some of it may sound funny. It is a recurring problem of this series and most of the books from Histoire Collections; but then those who are interested in buying this book and the other ones in the series buy them for the beautiful color plates and information on uniforms and equipments. The book covers from the 1st to the 14th Cuirassiers Regiments of the French heavy cavalry of the Napoleonic era. Pages 8 to 24 cover the organization of a cuirassiers regiment; including sections on recruitment and promotion. Page 30 covers cuirassier manoeuvre; with a section on "The Charge." There are two color plates showing different formations. From page 36 onwards; the book discusses the order of battle. There are about 61 color plates altogether; including two plates showing the differences in uniforms and horse furnitures between the ranks. As with all the other books in the series; the color plates are computer generated; which are not bad and quite beautiful. They are accompained with brief explanations; sometimes indicating the source; e.g.; based on a sketch by Knotel or according to the Markolsheim Manuscript used by Lucien Rousselot in his Plate No.91. This book is probably not adequate for the serious Napoleonic uniformologist or military collector; but it would be sufficient for the beginner modeler and wargamer who wants to know quickly what was the color facing of the 10th Cuirassiers or did the trumpeter of the 6th Cuirassiers rode on black sheepskin shabrack between 1804-1811. This book provides a quick colorful reference. I have bought almost all the Napoleonic books in this series and; as usual; am pleased with this one. I have a box of Zeveda's 1/72 French Cuirassiers on my work table and this book will be my guide in painting them.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Uniform referenceBy B. ThomasonNumber 14 in the series of Napoleonic Uniform information. Plates and descriptions are on par with the rest of these excellent works. Having been interested in this time period for more than 40 years; I find the books in this series extremely useful in painting the model soldiers I collect. They also make great references in determining the correct uniform colors; etc. for retail/commercial figures that I may wish to purchase. The depth of Uniform information provided is excellent.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Lanceget all the series
