Details of the settlement of the midwest are covered in this book; which help explain the attitudes and philosophy of the people in the area today. In a very matter-of-fact way; the author presents the considerable Norwegian contributions to the development of the frontier - why they came; where they came from and how they adapted to their new environment. I appreciated specific accounts of life aboard ship; travel routes and early settlements. Good descriptions of interrelationships among immigrants made a lasting impression. It also gave me new directions to pursue in my research.
