Every page fairly glides by like a wave. Hilarious moments in every chapter and that formidable attention to human detail; that which is especially appreciated by a prior military member. It's everything a novel should be in that the focus is on human behavior; customs; habits; morals in the face of almost impossible odds.Everyone in the book is extremely affable and engaging; it is a story of good men and strong men --how they all coordinate with each other under pressure; what they think and feel about one another. You hate to have to stop turning pages--and when you return to the covers after a break; it is with anticipation.Loved it from the shockingly sad beginning to the happy fairy tale ending.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A great little story about ordinary people caught up in a world war.By KFMThis is a great account of a regular guy's experiences in WWII; not a general or a fighter pilot; just your average enlisted man. It's a great story about him and his friends making their way through training and going overseas and experiencing combat; and for some of them; meeting their future wives. The story is told by the main characters son and while it's apparent he's not that polished a writer he still does a fine job telling the story. It's interesting and funny and tense and at times heartbreaking. You'll find yourself really liking the characters and being concerned about what happens to them. We're losing more and more WWII vets everyday; soon there will be none left so it's important to tell their stories now; while some are still here to make sure we get them right. This book tells a great story about average people who were caught up in a huge war and did the best they could to survive it. Definitely worth reading.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Well Told True StoryBy Mark D. MillerI love true stories. This is a good one. If you prefer tons of combat action this may not be for you; but the action that is part of this book is intense. The main characters are well developed and quite human as you would expect from a true story. Lots of touching and heartbreaking moments. It's also a quick read. I recommend this book.
